This year OSSummit, (Open Source Summit) will be held in Los Angeles, California. What is significant about this event is that it combines four different conferences under one roof. Namely, LinuxCon, ContainerCon, CloudOpen and Open Community Conference are all combined into Open Source Summit.

This mega event will be the highlight of the open source event of the year in North America. And if it is successful, we might see other smaller conferences focused around open source opting to join in for a piece of a larger audience.

The event will be held from Sept 11 – 14 at JW Marriott in Los Angeles.

There is an impressive list of speakers at the OSSummit which includes such dignitaries as Linus Torvalds, the founder of Linux & Git, Hollywood actor and star, Joseph Gordon-Levitt among others.

One can register for the OSSummit by registering on the official site.

OSSummit Sessions

There are many interesting sessions but some of the ones we would love to participate include the following:

OSSummit has also planned side events, including activities focused around children (yes bring your families along), career fair for potential job seekers, book signings and luncheons focused on specialized groups like Women in Tech.

Overall, the OSSummit 2017, should be very interesting and it will be a great chance to network with the open source community of developers and supporters alike.

The early bird fee for the event is US$800 but since we are now in the last phase, the fees have increased to US$1,100/attendee. However, for students and faculty it has been marked down to US$200.
