How to tell if your Computer is 64 bit?

Modern computers are all 64bit. Barring a few netbooks. But if you have an older system like a Pentium 4 or even Core2Duo or equivalent, you might have a 64bit system. Majority of those were 32bits but some were built for 64bit architecture.

If you want to find out if your PC/laptop is 32bit or 64 bit, do the following in Ubuntu:

  • Start a command line Terminal
  • Type the following command:

lscpu

Look at the output. The first two lines will display the results of whether it is 32bit or 64bit.

Here is my output from a 64 bit machine:

lscpu

The first two lines will define if the system is 64bit or not. Here it lists the Architecture as 64bit. So that’s it.
